Although some may perhaps find stupid, I belong to the type Touri, who feel the need, basic landmarks of a city (aka: What the guide sold me as such) on my first visit there . to have breakfast Ergo: The Reichstag dome was on the program.
When I visit a city for the first time, I really feel the need to see all the sights the guidebook praises as worthy. Therefore the Reichstag dome was a set point on my list.
As a well-informed traveler and I was the problem of potentially endless queuing of course aware and therefore sought to bypass. The possibilities of a reservation in the beetle's restaurant (too expensive and too posh and in general) and a tour of the Reichstag (fully booked for 3 months) were flat and we went with them for Variant three: getting up in all Hergottsfrühe to the first to be there.
Because we did not wanted to wait standing for hours in the queue with thousands of other tourists, we got up really early to finish in first.
fact, we were so so on Monday morning last week, at 7:40 local time clock (ie clock sieben forty in the holidays! Converts from you, when I got up for it. In the middle of the night! ) before the Reichstag, where there was at that time only a handful of people before us. But what we had to look as if we were admitted to the front door? A sign reading: The dome is of 26.7. to 30.7. closed for cleaning! Since one can ever take to the air!
We actually arrived at 7:40 am and it would have been a great day if there had not been the sign: Due to cleaning works the dome is closed! Reason enough to get through the roof, do not you think?.
I had not previously called the Visitors Service and checked the website, without being advised of this fact known for weeks, that would have been no problem. But I was upset but then something. Low! We are of course still highly driven, have seen a glimpse of the bottom of the dome and then we got the fact to Berlin for the next hour, more or less for us alone. At least that was a highlight :)!
Anyway, we went upstairs and enjoyed the fact being more or less the only tourist getting up that early for the next hour.
